The Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) checks conducted by the US Department of Treasury controls and imposes economic and trade sanctions based on the US foreign policy and national security goals against targeted international narcotics traffickers, terrorists, foreign countries, and those involved in activities linked to the production of mass destruction weapons. OFAC checks are conducted during national emergency powers and presidential wartime, in addition to authority granted by specific legislation, to freeze foreign assets and to inflict controls on transactions as per the US legislation.
OFAC check searches covered comprise of Bank of England Terrorist list, Office of Foreign Asset Control of the U.S. Department of Treasury, and Canadian Office of the Superintendent of Institutions list (OSFI). The list includes foreign nationals, against whom the U.S. government has presently issued sanctions; who are constrained from exporting by the U.S. Department of Commerce; whom no U.S. person may have dealings with and whose property may be blocked. International narcotics traffickers and traffickers are also included in this list.
